Download N Go: Ben Franklin – Review

We’ve already learned about how Ben Franklin used kites in his experiments with Amanda Bennett’s wonderful Download N Go title Kite Capers.  Now it’s time to learn more, with a whole e-book unit study about Ben Franklin.  I was given a copy of this e-book in exchange for an honest review 🙂

As with all Download N Go titles, this unit study is geared toward children from Primary/Kindergarten to Grade 4.  What will your child learn in this 5-day study?

Day 1: Who Was Ben Franklin?

Day 2: People and Places in Ben Franklin’s Life

Day 3: The Accomplishments of Ben Franklin

Day 4: Lessons to Learn From Ben Franklin

Day 5: Remembering Ben Franklin

Each day includes a list of several resource books, including ISBN numbers to make looking them up at your local library much easier.  There are a variety of wonderful links to great, interactive websites and videos included in each day as well.  I love that, when learning about the details of Ben Franklin’s life, the student is asked to compare to his own life.  I learned so much fascinating information about this famous inventor – I love learning right along with my children!  Did you know that as a child, Franklin wanted nothing more than to work on a ship when he grew up?  Or that he created the very first political cartoon?  Or that he invented the odometer?  Oh and how about some of his wonderful, famous quotes, such as:  "The doors of wisdom are never shut"! (Almost every quote of Benjamin Franklin’s is something I think would make a great poster on a homeschooler’s wall).

All Download N Go titles include materials and instructions to complete a colourful, informative, and fun lapbook.  Don’t worry if you’ve never put together a lapbook before, an "Introduction to Lapbooking" is included, complete with video links just for you.  If you decide that lapbooking’s not for you and/or your child, then just leave that part out.  There are also spelling/vocabulary words, games, colouring pages, activities, and crafts.  We’re going to enjoy coming back to this unit study when we’re focusing on this time period in our Tapestry of Grace curriculum.

Ben Franklin is available for download now in The Schoolhouse Store for $7.95 US, where you can also download a free sample.  To see all the Download N Go titles available, click HERE.  To see my reviews on other Download N Go titles, go to…
