These Are a Few of My Favourite Apps!

I have mentioned before that I love my iPod Touch – for the educational apps, and to organize my life.  Here are some of my absolute favourites (all free):

Foreign Language:

Mindsnacks Language – we use the French and Spanish versions – free for the first few levels and $4.99 US to upgrade to access all 50 levels.  While we don’t usually get anything but free apps, we splurged and bought the French upgrade.  Go to the SMATOOS website to see my full review on this fantastically fun app!

Sign Language! from EverydayASL.com – free for iPod/iPhone.  They also have other apps available for $1.99 US.  My 8 year old daughter spends a lot of time on this one.  Click and watch videos of ASL signs and finger spelling (so much easier to learn from than drawings).

Literature:

Shakespeare in Bits – Romeo & Juliet – the Lite version is free, which is what we have used so far.  The full version is $7.99 US.  I may just have to splurge on these someday.  The Romeo & Juliet app is just fantastic – with full, unabridged text completely dramatized with great cartoon characters.  There are also Hamlet, Macbeth, and Midsummer Night’s Dream versions.  If you don’t have an iPod/iPhone/iPad, you can also Download MAC & PC versions.

History:

Parks Canada Heritage Gourmet – free for iPhone/iPod/Android (Blackberry coming soon). You’ll love supplementing your history studies with authentic historic Canadian cuisine.

Science:

Stars from www.nelix-dev.com – free for iPhone/iPod/iPad.  Displays the 88 constellations.  Tap the screen to see the names of some of the individual stars.  Drag the screen to get to the quadrant of the sky you want to view.  It also shows the coordinates.

What are your favourite free apps?
