When the TOS Crew-mates were asked to share our favourite resources for the grades we’re teaching in our homeschools, I just had to entitle it “My Favourite Things” because I sang that song for an audition at the university this weekend 🙂
Some of my favourite curricula, that we are utilizing so far this year…
For ALL grades:
Tapestry of Grace – we have been using TOG for about a year and a half. We’ve started the Year 2 curriculum this year and are very much enjoying ourselves. We finally actually did “salt dough maps” and they were a big hit with both children. We’re very much looking forward to our Unit Celebration in several weeks, which will consist of a Medieval Feast 🙂
For my daughter (Gr 1/2):
Usborne Books’ Very First Reading Series: We LOVE this series of books. It consists of 15 cute little books designed to be your child’s very first books to read. The story is split – one side of the page is for the parent to read, and then the child continues the story on the other side of the page. More and more sounds are included as the series progresses, and more and more words are on the child’s side of the page. It’s great fun to read together with these books and my daughter read her very first sentence ever in the first book, “Pirate Pat”, she just loved it because Pat is her dad’s name 🙂
For my son (Gr 6/7):
Teaching Textbooks – We love, love, love this curriculum in our homeschool! This is the third year that we’ve used Teaching Textbooks for math. It is fun and thorough without being overly repetitive. Since we started using this curriculum, my son has always wanted to hop right on the computer in the morning to start his math lesson.
Critical Thinking: Book One – We have always been thoroughly impressed with The Critical Thinking Co.’s curricula. This year my son is very much enjoying diving right into the study of formal logic. The lessons in Critical Thinking are easy to understand and enjoyable for him. Given the choice, this is the book he picks up right after he’s finished math.
What are some of your favourites so far this year? Feel free to share 🙂
