Every spring, the Department of Natural Resources puts on a program called "Kids in the Forest". Bus loads of children come to spend the whole day in the woods of Beaver Bank (Sackville area), where learning stations are set up to talk about things like conservation enforcement, wildlife adaptation, forest harvesting and regeneration, aquatic life in brooks and streams, fire fighting (with the wild fire suppression truck and helicopter on site – always a big hit with the children!), water quality/wetlands, rocks and minerals, insects,………….. – it’s a pretty full day! The folks who come to manage the learning stations are all professionals in their various fields, and the comments received from participating children and their teachers have been very positive.
