Alderney Landing Art Camps

July 2nd to 6th – FROG DAYS OF SUMMER (Art Camp)
Join us for a week of exploring Pond Life! We’ll start the week off with a trip to Shubie Park to inspire tadpole, frog, lily pad and duck and goose themed art projects all week!
July 9th to 13th – TRANSFORMERS (Art Camp)
This Camp will jam packed full of not only ROBOTS! But all sorts of cool art projects that start as one thing and transform into something else!
July 16th to 20th – PETER PAN (Theatre Camp)
This classic favourite will be reworked by this group and presented in a special performance for the parents in our very own Alderney Landing Theatre at the end of the week!
July 23rd to 27th – THE WIZARD OF OZ (Theatre Camp)
We’re off to see WIZARD! This week the children will be performing a play rewritten specifically for them by our teen camp scriptwriters and wearing special costumes designed in house by our teen designers!

July 2nd to 6th – IMPROV FOR STAGE
Instructor David Zinck will bring his phenomenal Improv class to Alderney this Summer for one week where students’ minds will be blown away by the improvisational talents that emerge from them on our stage.
Back by popular demand, renowned playwright Juanita Peters will take our scriptwriters on a journey to rewrite, rethink and recreate the Wizard of Oz! We’ll take this classic and rework it until it’s virtually unrecognizable and SO MUCH BETTER… Wizard of Oz: 2.0. This new script will be read for the parents on the final Camp Friday and performed by the Theatre Camp students in the final week of July, the Summer’s participants will be invited back for the Finale!
July 16th to 20th – COSTUME DESIGN
In this final Teen Camp we will study modern costume design for stage and transform the costume ideas for the classic Wizard of Oz.

A week-long introduction in brass instrumental performance for students aged 8-18 with at least one year of experience on their preferred instrument (trumpet/cornet,horn, baritone/euphonium, trombone, tuba/bass).
Youth Ensemble Camp
Ages 5-7: Activities include recorder, percussion, and Kindermusik classes, singing in a choir, active listening, and arts and crafts
Ages 8 & Up: Activities include percussion and improvisation classes, singing in a choir, private lessons on a primary instrument or voice, semi-private lessons on a secondary instrument or voice, and playing in an ensemble. Primary instruments may include flute, clarinet (clarineo), oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, piano or voice. If a student doesn’t have a secondary instrument, they will be able to borrow one of a number of different instruments or study piano or voice.

The Historic Acadian Village of Nova Scotia Youth Summer Camp Program
This summer camp is designed for the youths from the Municipality of Argyle who are currently in 3rd to 6th grade.
The day will consist of learning games, doing a little work that youths did back then, music, skits and more. On Friday of each week, the children will present a short play around 2:30PM in the amphitheater of the Village.

The 12th Annual Albert Bridge Winter Carnival
Proceeds go to the Albert Bridge Community Fire Truck Fund and the Atlantic Burn Camp.
Donations of food items will also be accepted on behalf of the District 1 Food Bank at all events.
Friday March 9th – Opening Parade at 6:30pm at the fire hall.
Bring a flashlight. Hot dogs, cake and hot chocolate will follow. There will be a kids dance downstairs for children 12 years and under with music by Bobby Burke. Admission to the kids dance is a food bank donation. Munchies provided. Saturday March 10th – Pancake Breakfast at Riverside School from 8:30am to 11:30am. Admission is $5.00 per person. Tickets available from Committee Members or at the door.
– Dance will take place at the Fire Hall at 9pm, admission is a donation at the door.
Monday March 12th
– Coasting and Animal visit to Hanson’s Farm on Trout Brook Road at 12 noon.
Hot dogs and hot chocolate. Admission is a food donation.
– Bonfire will take place from 5pm to 7pm at the fire hall.
Tuesday March 12th – 2pm to 4pm Seniors Social at the Albert Bridge Fire Hall with the Inspirational Singers. Tea and sandwiches and sweets. Admission is a monetary donation at the door.

The YMCA of Cape Breton is holding March Break activities from Monday March 12th to Friday March 16th with a fabulous week of activity and creativity. Children will enjoy games, create works of art and meet new friends. Activities will be age specific from 8:30am to 4:30pm. A single day for members is $25.00 per child and non-members $30.00. Registration for all March Break and Summer Camps is on until March 9th.
Kids ‘N’ Crafts – 9am to noon March 14-16 – Ages 7-10 – Tuition $60.  Tuition fee includes all supplies.

Working With’ Clay March 15-18 – 9am to noon  Ages 10-14- Tuition $75, includes all supplies.

Drawing & Cartooning – Mar 14-17 – 1-4pm – Ages 10 & up – Tuition $60, includes all supplies.
