For my entire childhood, except for a very brief time when I was 5 and wanted to be a nurse, I always wanted to be a teacher. In fact, I was regularly told I should be a teacher, especially by my classmates whom I was always helping with their work. Well here I am, a teacher. Not only do I teach by homeschooling my own children, but I also teach private music lessons. I LOVE both of these jobs (not to mention also being an Usborne Books Educational Specialist and my writing etc). I feel very blessed, even though money is tight. I live in the most beautiful place in the world (in my opinion), and live on a farm in the country, which is also something I always dreamed of. For my farm dream to be complete, all I need now is some horses – so far we just have chickens 🙂
I believe that all homeschool mothers – all mothers for that matter – should have and pursue interests, and I have a lot of them. I am very active in local theatre. I hand-spin, weave, and knit – I belong to a spinning guild and we get together regularly to spin and socialize. I love playing all manner of games and I get together weekly with friends to play – now that my son is older I drag him along too. Not surprisingly, I love to sing, and so I serve at our church on the Worship team.
If I were to daydream a little more, I suppose I might dream of being an actress. It would be pretty amazing to be on the stage, which I already love, and get paid to be there to boot 🙂 And something else that has always interested me is archaeology. I may actually be able to join an archaeological dig at the Fortress this year – it’s sort of like a summer camp for adults, LOL.
So how about you? Is homeschooling your dream job? Can you imagine doing anything else? Is there something you always dreamed about, or want to get around to once your children have all graduated?

I agree that Mom’s need to have dreams and outside interests. Maybe that is what keeps us sane? I know, for me, it makes me a better Mom. It sounds like you have a busy life and one that is full of joy! Thanks for sharing. I’m sailing through on the Blog Cruise and now I’m a follower! God Bless,

I have the horse (only one at this time) and you have the chickens….we may have to combine properties 🙂 Outside interests…..hmmmm, gardening (does that count?). I love sewing, but my sewing machine sits idle. I use to crochet all the time…oh and scrapbooking. I guess one day I’ll get back to those things. My dh asked me one time why I have a huge collection of fabrics, yarns, scrapbooking material and don’t use them. I told him that little by little I can gear up for when the kids are gone. If I do it little by little now, I won’t go hog wild in a state of depression later 🙂 The same goes for some of the groups I could join but choose to hold off. Those things will be for the next season of my life, for this season, it is focusing on the kids and homeschooling them to the best of my ability with the Lord’s guidance.

Ooh, another reason to try to visit you someday Vickie, a horse! Gardening definitely counts! And sounds like you have to start teaching your kids how to sew, crochet, and scrapbook – then you can all do it together 🙂
I have lots of interests, I just don’t have enough time in the day to pursue them all. I need to whittle them down a bit and only concentrate on one or two.
And you have chickens? I’d love to have chickens (again. I had them when I was a kid.) One day we might live in a place with some acreage or something like that where we could have chickens. Then I’d also want cows (for the milk) and probably sheep (I have collies and they’d love to herd the sheep instead of my children.)
Kellyann, you may want to look into your city’s bylaws – 2 or 3 chickens in your backyard may be acceptable 🙂 Yes, a milk cow, some sheep and goats would be nice too!
Something I didn’t mention is that I would also like to take some more university courses when our budget allows.
When I was a little girl, and even in my teens, I also dreamed of being an actress. It never did come to fruition, other than local theatre and high school performances, but it was fun while it lasted! Great post!
